So who am I?

A formal description would go something like,

"Andrew Masur is an Landscape, Wildlife and Documentary photographer based in Richmond Hill, Ontario."

however that doesn't explain why I do what I do, which in many ways is far more important than what I do.

Like many people bitten by this addiction I've always had great interest in observing the world around me; from the people we see every day, to the wonders of the landscapes around us and the fantastic life that populates them. However, my initial love of photography didn't come from photographing landscapes and wildlife, it came from astronomy. I've been fascinated by astronomy my entire life and was always sad that I could not share the wonders that I saw on many nights with others. So I bought my first digital SLR (a Canon 300D Digital Rebel) and started the long and difficult road of learning astrophotography.

While that is an area of photography I still greatly enjoy, there are only so many hours of darkness available in a day (what with the need to sleep and all) so I started to take my camera with me wherever I went during the day and started photographing the things around me. The more I did it, the more I liked it and before long I found myself planning trips and activities simply based upon the photos I could take there.

That was eight years ago, and I'd like to think that I've come a long way since then. My goal as a photographer is to try and share the feelings that a place or scene instill in me. Hopefully my work passes on even a small fraction of those feelings, and will become even better at doing so as I continue to improve my skills and vision.
